Where MamMaw Knelt

Where MamMaw Knelt

When I was a little girl, my family would drive two hours to my Nannie and PawPaw's house to stay the weekend, and during the summers, sometimes longer. They were my Mama's parents, and MamMaw, my Nannie's mother, lived with them. She had her own little bedroom nestled in the front corner of the house, with two twin-size beds on opposite sides of the wall from one another. She would sleep in one, and my sister and I would share the other. We would be put to bed before the adults, with MamMaw usually trailing in not far behind. When she came sneaking in for her peaceful slumber, she would turn off the little tv at the foot of our bed, kneel bedside hers, and begin to pray. I would wonder when it was going to end so that she would turn TV Land back on. You could hear her mumbling words, and ever-so-often you would hear her say something out loud. She was praying over our family! As a child I didn't see this as a big deal. Even I was taught to say bedtime prayers, but as I've got older, I realize the power her prayers have had over our family for generations. These were not "Now I lay me down to sleep" type prayers. These were prayers that beat down the door of Heaven, sent out a fleet of angels on a mission for war in the battleground of our lives so that even the enemies of our future didn't stand a chance. I've seen family saved, healed of depression and disease, freed from drugs and alcohol, released from jail cells, and lives changed. Every night I would watch her place her elbows on the edge of that blue blanket, with her Bible on her end table with the gold lamp and the lace doily, and I would listen to see what I could make of her words, not realizing that one day, her quiet words would have a loud impact on me. She knew Jesus. She knew Him and the power the He holds. And I pray that everyone will come to understand the impact that praying over your family will have, not only for your current situation, but for your future, and the future of your family for generations to come.

Love, Tiffany
