This page is filled with carefully selected resources to help you understand not only what Judges says, but why it matters. As you follow Israel through repeated cycles of rebellion, oppression, repentance, and deliverance, you'll witness both the devastating consequences of abandoning God and His incredible mercy in raising up judges to rescue His people. Through the lives of Deborah, Gideon, Samson, and others, you'll see that God often chooses unlikely people to accomplish His purposes. Most importantly, you'll discover how every chapter points forward to Jesus Christ- the perfect Judge, the true Deliverer, and the righteous King who brings the lasting salvation that no earthly judge ever could.

My prayer is that these resources encourage you to slow down, open your Bible, and deepen your understanding of God's justice, mercy, and faithfulness. Judges isn't simply a collection of dramatic stories; it's the sobering account of what happens when people reject God's authority, while also revealing the amazing grace of a God who continually pursues His people despite their repeated failures.

But First... Pray

Prayer Before Studying Judges

Heavenly Father,

As I open the book of Judges, I ask You to open my heart and my mind to Your truth. Thank You for preserving Your Word so that I can know You more deeply and understand Your character.

As I read, help me see more than a series of battles and flawed leaders. Show me Your justice, Your mercy, Your patience, and Your unfailing faithfulness to a people who repeatedly turned away from You. Teach me to trust You wholeheartedly, remembering that true freedom and lasting peace are found only in walking with You.

Reveal the ways this book points to Jesus- our perfect Judge, our true Deliverer, and the righteous King who rescues us from the bondage of sin. Give me wisdom to understand the Scriptures in their proper context and a humble heart that is willing to be changed by what I learn.

Help me not to rush through these pages, but to slow down, ask good questions, and delight in discovering the richness of Your Word. May this study deepen my faith, strengthen my obedience, and draw me into a closer relationship with You.

Thank You for Your grace that pursues us even when we fail, Your mercy that is new every morning, and Your love that never gives up on Your people. May everything I learn lead me to worship You more fully and to live in faithful obedience to Your Word.

In Jesus' name,

Amen.
