Heavenly Father,
As I open the book of Romans, I ask You to open my heart and my mind to Your truth. Thank You for preserving Your Word so that I can know You more deeply and better understand the incredible good news of the gospel.
As I read, help me understand the seriousness of sin and the greatness of Your grace. Show me that righteousness cannot be earned through my own efforts, but is Your gift through faith in Jesus Christ. Teach me what it means to be justified by faith, reconciled to You, set free from the power of sin, and given new life through Your Spirit.
Help me understand the relationship between law and grace, faith and works, and Your faithfulness to every promise You have made. As I encounter difficult passages, give me patience to study them carefully and wisdom to understand Paul's words within their proper context. Help me follow his arguments instead of pulling individual verses away from the message surrounding them.
Show me Jesus throughout this letter- the One who died for sinners, was raised to life, brings peace with God, and makes salvation possible for everyone who believes. Help me grasp the truth that there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ and that nothing can separate Your children from Your love.
Help me not to rush through these pages, but to slow down, ask good questions, follow cross references, notice repeated words and themes, and delight in discovering the richness of Your Word. May what I learn transform not only what I believe, but also the way I worship, serve, love others, and live.
